AWARDS AND COURSES
Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC)/Bronze Medallion
The SRC and Bronze Medallion are the core lifesaving awards required to participate as a team member in a surf lifesaving service. During the course you will learn about your responsibilities as part of a surf lifesaving team, basic first aid and emergency care skills, surf awareness and surf rescue skills.
Radio Operators Certificate
Develops the skills and knowledge to perform basic communication practices. During the course you will gain competencies to effectively and confidently use radios as a means of communication whilst patrolling
First Aid
Provides participants with the skills and knowledge to manage an emergency first aid situation until professional medical support is available.
Successful candidates will receive the the nationally recognised unit of competency:
- HLTAID003 Provide First Aid
- HLTAID002 Provide Basic Life Support
- HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
Resuscitation Certificate
Develops skills to perform CPR during an emergency situation. These skills can be further developed by completing the Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Certificate.
Successful candidates will receive the nationally recognised unit of competency:
- HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Advanced Resuscitation Certificate (AID)
Develops skills and knowledge to use oxygen, airway management devices, and automated external defibrillators during resuscitation, and to administer oxygen to conscious or unconscious breathing casualties.
Silver Medallion Beach Management
Inflatable Rescue Boat Crew (IRBC)
Develops skills and knowledge to effectively participate as crew in rescues using an Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB).
Silver Medallion Inflatable Rescue Boat Driver (IRBD)
Develop skills and knowledge to safely and effectively drive an Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB).
All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV)
Gold Medallion (Advanced Lifesaving)
Develop advanced skills and knowledge to manage emergency situations in autonomous situations. Participants will become advanced patrolling members and have the competencies to potentially gain employment as a Lifeguard.
Training Officer Certificate
Provides participants with the skills, knowledge and experience to deliver quality training of Surf Life Saving awards.
Assessor Certificate
Provides participants with the skills, knowledge and experience to assess training of Surf Life Saving awards.
Requalification
The majority of life saving awards are valid for a period of a single season expiring on the 31 December of the following year. The Club runs two requals as well as notifying members of local requals in the area, as well as in greater Melbourne area by request, and the state Requal at Port Melbourne. These sessions are a great way to refresh your memory and skills for the upcoming season and catch up with friends.
